Dr. Michael Ormsmith elected to Virginia ACTE Board of Directors

Stanardsville, VA, September 10, 2019

Dr. Michael Ormsmith, GCPS Director of Career and Technical Education, has been appointed to a two-year term on the Virginia Association for Career and Technical Education (Virginia ACTE) as the Virginia Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators (VACTEA) Representative.  The Virginia ACTE "is dedicated to expanding relevant and rigorous Career and Technical Education programs, enhancing leadership among its members, and influencing public policy for the benefit of Career and Technical Education students and professionals and developing a competitive workforce in the Commonwealth of Virginia."  The Virginia ACTE Board includes representatives from the ten Virginia CTE professional associations, including VACTEA.  Similarly, the VACTEA Board is made up of elected officers and representatives from the eight superintendents’ regions of Virginia.  VACTEA's goals are to promote CTE leadership and program development, provide professional learning opportunities for Virginia's CTE Administrators, and supporting legislation to expand and advance Career and Technical Education.

As the VACTEA Representative, Dr. Ormsmith advocates for CTE Administrators across the state to provide opportunities for students and teachers.  "Career and Technical Education plays a crucial role in helping students find a career matched to their abilities.  It is truly an honor to serve our students in this capacity," said Dr. Ormsmith. "By supporting CTE leaders to create new and innovative programs, we are able to reach more students with opportunities closely linked to high paying jobs.  In the end, it is all about preparing students to be 'life ready' when they leave high school."

Dr. Ormsmith's term on the Virginia ACTE Board runs through 2021.
