Inclement Weather Closings and Delays

How do we decide to delay or close school?

When inclement weather approaches, our division superintendent consults with the National Weather Service, the Virginia Department of Transportation, the Greene County Sheriff's Office, GCPS directors, and other regional school divisions.

The factors we consider before making a decision include current and predicted weather conditions, road conditions, and the ability of the division to prepare for students to arrive and dismiss safely.

Typically, we strive to make a decision by 6:30 a.m. Once a decision is made, we will notify parents via our automated alert system and posts on the division's website and social media accounts.

If schools are closed, all after-school activities and events will be canceled unless otherwise noted.
